Jackson's Park, located in Peterborough, Ontario Canada offers a wide variety of trails for all riders.

GPS Data Available

Parking & Trail Access
There are 3 areas you can park. The first main enterence is located off Fairbairn street, at the itnersection of Fairbairn and Parkhill. The second main enterence is located at the traffic lights, located at the intersection of Parkhill and Monaghan.
The 3rd enterence is at the far end of the rail trail. You have to park along side the road, and bike 4km to get into the center of the park. You can get to this enterence by Driving out Fairbairn to Ackinson road, turning left, and look for where the old railway line crossed the road (around the bottom of the hill.
How To Find The Park
Directions from the 401 Take Highway 115 exit from the 401 (on the east side of Oshawa), and travel north to Peterborough. Exit the 115 at The Parkway exit. Travel North to Lansdowne st. Turn Right onto Lansdown, and then turn Left onto Monaghan Rd. Travel straight up Monaghan and you will drive right into the parking lot of the park.
There are two main types of trails running through the park. A rail trail, and a network of single track that runs through the forest along side the rail tril.
I will cover the single track first, so if your only interested in the rail trail, please skip down the page. :)
Single Track Section
Total length: 2.5km
The main section of single track runs along the south side of the creek. There is a trail that runs along the top of the hill, and one along the bottom, right next to the water. Personally, I enjoy starting with the upper trail, so that's the rout I'm going to start with here.
UPDATE - July 25th 2007
A large (rather ugly) fence has been erected across the section of upper trail in the area of the large valley. A new trail is being created to try and go around this fence, but for the near future, it will be pretty rough.
Too bad everyone is afraid of lawsuits nowadays...
You can find the enterence to the upper trail by...
Starting in the center of the park (see top image), ride over the concrete bridge, and up the hill to the right. You will notice a path about 3/4 of the way up to your right, this is the start. If you come to a parking lot, you've gone too far, turn around.
You'll start off in a soft cedar forest, along this trail, you'll encounter roots, rocks, really tight tunnels made by the trees, some nice small downhill spurts, a stream, and a few man made obsticles.

Once you reach the end of the upper trail, you have the option to go down to the lower trails. There's about 2KM of single track to check out.
NOTE: New housing development has unfortunately destroyed the section of trail around the cedar forest hill drop area of the single track trail. You will need to ride down the hill, onto the rail trail, pass the construction zone, and then back up onto the single track trails again to pass. More on this as it develops.
Rail Trail Section
The rail trail was created by the Kiwanis club, and is part of the Trans-Canada trail. It is suitable for cycling, walking, x-country skiing, and is wheelchair accessible.
Total length: 4km
The trail surface is hard packed crushed stone. Watch out for washouts caused by spring runnoff.
The trail travels through some very picturesque areas, including a wetland. You will see all types of wildlife if you take the time to look around. I have seen snapping turtles, fox, many different species of birds, and even deer.

Nestled to the side of the trail, you will find a signpost every kilometer, telling you how far you have traveled from the center of the park.

The official trail ends when you reach Ackinson road.

At this point, you can either turn around, and go back in to Jackson's Park, or, continue down the railway line. The trail from this point on is not groomed, or maintained in any way. It is really only suitable for mountain bikes, X-country skiing, and hikers.
If you do decide to continue, the railway line goes into the little village of Omemee, then continues to Lindsay and beyound.
